In 1999 –2000 with the financial support of the Russian-American nongovernmental group on human rights, under the programme of sub grants “The Civil Society” the project “Integration of refugees and forced migrants into the local community” was implemented.
The goal of the project was rendering free legal, social assistance to forced migrants, refugees; protecting the interests of forced migrants by means of rendering free legal counseling and conducting cases in courts, as well as statistical investigation of migration in the Stavropol Region. Great attention was paid to activities for attracting financial means and material values for rendering humanitarian aid to needy families of forced migrants. Thus in the framework of the project over 1400 people received professional legal and social assistance. Over 600 families got humanitarian aid. Equally with the assistance to forced migrants, local needy citizens were rendered assistance as well. In the course of the project implementation contacts were established with the Administration Offices of the cities of the Caucasian Mineral Waters, social services centers, migrant services and other institutions of the region. Implementation of this project allowed forced migrants to learn their rights and defend them, adapt in new situations, eased the process of their integration into the local community. |
